History of the Music Video

During the 60's the popular style of using promotional clips to advertise songs began with the Beetles, other bands such as Pink Floyd and Bob Dylan also began to use this style. 
One of the first music videos played on MTV in 1981 was 'Video Killed The Radio Star. From this many other music channels emerged. 
Throughout the 80's music videos became more professional and sophisticated, using devices such as plotlines and various styles of cinematography. David Bowie is infamous in these techniques, especially in the video 'Ashes to Ashes'. 
Programmes such as Top of the Pops began during the 70s-80s as well as various other programmes, Top of the Pops first featured the famous music video of Queens 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. 
Other influential music videos include, Pink Floyd-'Arnold Lane', Micheal Jackson-'Thriller', and Peter Gabriel-'Sledgehammer'.
